We developed the Certificate in Fundamentals of Petroleum Technology in response to the emerging oil and gas sector in Guyana and the increasing expectation for professionals to understand the fundamentals of this field. The program provides knowledge in various aspects of the petroleum industry from the origins of the oil droplet to how it is found, extracted, stored, transported, and processed so it ends up in our homes. The skills participants will gain from this program would be immediately transferrable to personnel's roles and daily duties. Participants will be able to appreciate and understand fully oilfield jargon and concepts.

Entry Requirements:

  • Passes in at least five CSEC subjects
  • The subjects must include English Language and Mathematics
  • Other equivalent qualifications may also be considered
    An applicant who does not satisfy all the stipulated minimum academic or technical qualifications for admission to a program may be accepted as a mature student. They would need to possess the critical elements of the stipulated qualification and would be assessed by NGS Program Manager.

Meet the facilitator:

Reshma Samlal possesses a Diploma in Petroleum Engineering from the Trinidad and Tobago Institute of Technology, a Bachelor of Technology in Petroleum Engineering, and a Master of Science degree from the University of Trinidad and Tobago. She has gained valuable experience in the Oil and Gas industry in Trinidad from companies such as Petrotrin and Trincan Oil and was previously employed for over twelve years at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. She is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and The Energy Institute (UK).
